Renowned non-fungible token (NFT) collector Todd Kramer revealed that his collection of 16 NFT Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) was hacked by unknown threat actors, who seized these assets worth about $2.28 million USD.
The affected user said the renowned platform for the sale of NFT OpenSea had “frozen” assets for him, including a Clonex, seven Mutant Ape Yacht Club and eight BAYC NFTs. For those who don’t know, the BAYC NFT is a popular collection of 10,000 unique files created by Yuga Labs, so popular that they have accumulated profits of more than $500 million USD.
Through his Twitter account, Kramer mentioned that the incident was “possibly the worst night” of his life. In narrating his ordeal, he mentioned that he had clicked on a link that appeared to belong to a genuine decentralized NFT application. Instead, the collector encountered a phishing attack that led to the theft of the 16 NFTs in question.
These are arguably the most famous examples of NFT, as some samples of this collection have even been sold to celebrities such as basketball player Stephen Curry, musician Post Malone, and even renowned TV host Jimmy Fallon. Among the upcoming plans of the creators of these tokens is the launch of their own cryptocurrency based on the Ethereum project and that should be available in the coming months.
